About the project
What began as a conversation among friends grew into a mission: build the world's largest buckeye necklace to raise awareness and funding for the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Invokause, a nonprofit organization focused on creative community causes, helped shape the program into a grassroots effort. Volunteers hand-picked buckeyes, each one was sequentially numbered, and supporters could look up their buckeye in the registry.
The original goal was 100,000 buckeyes. In the end, roughly 20,000 were sold and all proceeds were donated to the Stefanie Spielman Fund.
Today, the finished necklace is on public display in an 8-foot Block O installation designed by OSU students at the Stefanie Spielman Comprehensive Breast Center.
